Lake Sevan


Lake Sevan is the largest body of water in Armenia and the Caucasus region. It is one of the largest freshwater high-altitude (alpine) lakes in Eurasia. The lake is situated in Gegharkunik Province, at an altitude of 1,900 m (6,234 ft) above sea level. The total surface area of its basin is about 5,000 km2
The construction of six hydroelectric plants on the Hrazdan led to a fall of the lake level. To stabilize its level, a 30 mi (49 km) tunnel to divert water from the Arpa River was constructed in the late 1970s. Lake Sevan is rich in fish, especially trout, and fishing is important. Several ancient Armenian churches lie along the shores.

Geghard


Geghard  is a medieval monastery in the Kotayk province of Armenia, being partially carved out of the adjacent mountain, surrounded by cliffs.
The monastery of Geghard contains a number of churches and tombs, most of them cut into the rock, which illustrate the very peak of Armenian medieval architecture. The complex of medieval buildings is set into a landscape of great natural beauty, surrounded by towering cliffs at the entrance to the Azat Valley.


Khor Virap


The Khor Virap is an Armenian monastery located in the Ararat plain in Armenia, near the closed border with Turkey, about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) south of Artashat, Ararat Province, within the territory of ancient Artaxata.
It is located on the foot of the incredible snow capped strato volcano of Mount Ararat, which is the national symbol of Armenia. From the monastery you overlook the amazing Ararat Valley both on Armenian and Turkish land.

Republic Square, Yerevan

Garni Temple


Garni Temple  is the only standing Greco-Roman colonnaded building in Armenia and the former Soviet Union. A Ionic temple located in the village of Garni, Armenia, it is the best-known structure and symbol of pre-Christian Armenia.
The temple is at the edge of a triangular cliff which overlooks the ravine of the Azat River and the Gegham mountains. It is part of the fortress of Garni. One of the oldest fortresses in Armenia,t is mentioned as Gorneas in the first-century Annals of Tacitus.[6] The fortress was strategically significant for the defense of the major cities in the Ararat plain.
The site is in the village of Garni, in Armenia's Kotayk Province and includes the temple, a Roman bath with a partly preserved mosaic floor with a Greek inscription, a royal summer palace, the seventh century church of St. Sion and other minor items.

Yerevan Cascade


The Cascade is a giant stairway made of limestone in Yerevan, Armenia. It links the downtown Kentron area of Yerevan with the Monument neighborhood. Designed by architects Jim Torosyan, Aslan Mkhitaryan, and Sargis Gurzadyan the construction of the cascade started in 1971 and was partially completed in 1980.
The building that now houses the Cafesjian Center for the Arts is well known to the Armenian people, especially those living in its capital city of Yerevan.

Blue Mosque, Yerevan


The Blue Mosque is an 18th-century Shia mosque in Yerevan, Armenia. During the Soviet era, the mosque stopped its services and housed the History Museum of Yerevan. Following Armenia's independence, the mosque was renovated with the support from the Iranian government and again started acting as a mosque.
There has been a mosque on this site since 1765, but like the other eight or so mosques that operated in Yerevan at the beginning of the 20th century it was closed during the Soviet era. Reconstructed in the late 1990s with Iranian funds, it is now the only functioning mosque in the city. Decorated with exterior tiles, it has a modest interior, graceful tiled dome, small minaret, and shady garden with fountains and flowerbeds. Visitors should dress appropriately – no bare legs or shoulders, and women should wear a headscarf when entering the prayer hall.

Lovers' Park


Lovers' Park is a public park in Yerevan, Armenia, located on Baghramyan Avenue. It occupies an area of 2.5 hectares in the central Kentron District of the city. The park was entirely renovated between 2005 and 2008 and reopened in November 2008 by the efforts of benefactor.
