Nelson's Dockyard


Nelson's Dockyard is a cultural heritage site and marina in English Harbour, located in Saint Paul Parish on the island of Antigua, in Antigua and Barbuda.
 Its importance is enshrined in the name by which it is generally known – “Nelson's Dockyard”. The doomed hero of the Battle of Trafalgar was based at the dockyard's sturdy wharves between 1784 and 1787. Not that he much cared for it. In letters and writings, he referred to his temporary home as.
Nelson's Dockyard provides many sites and activities for visitors to explore and enjoy. The Dockyard Museum, located in the former Admiral's House, presents visitors with exhibits regarding the Dockyard's history and current archaeological research on the island.

Leeward Islands


The Leeward Islands /ˈliːwərd/ are a group of islands situated where the northeastern Caribbean Sea meets the western Atlantic Ocean. On a map, they start with the Virgin Islands east of Puerto Rico and reach southeast to Dominica.
The Windward Islands are located on the eastern edge of the Caribbean Sea and form the southeastern boundary between the Caribbean and the Atlantic Ocean. The Windward group includes the islands of Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada.

Falmouth Harbour


Falmouth Harbour is a horseshoe-shaped bay and natural harbour on the far southern coast of the island of Antigua in Antigua and Barbuda. It is located within Saint Paul Parish. Geography[edit]. Fort James, Antigua and Barbuda


Fort James is a fort at the entrance to the harbour of St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda. The fort was built to guard St. John's harbour and is one of the many forts built by the British in the 18th century. Fear of a French invasion prompted the construction. It is located on a headland overlooking the town northwesterly.
Beach is also a popular spot for cruise ship visitors, as it's only a 5-10 minutes drive from the St.John's cruise ship dock.

Museum of Antigua and Barbuda


The mission of the Museum is to:
–Advance the understanding and exploration of the history, culture, and architecture of Antigua and Barbuda.
–Document the physical and cultural heritage of Antigua and Barbuda, which have local, regional, and national significance.
–Educate by collecting, preserving, and interpreting artifacts, writings, and oral histories, both historic and contemporary, which reflect the living heritage of the people of Antigua and Barbuda.
–Collaborate with other organizations with similar interests, while maintaining permanent spaces suitable to the Museum’s mission.
Through these activities, the Museum serves the people of Antigua and Barbuda and all those who enjoy its history and culture.
The museum’s main floor houses exhibits relating to the history and culture of Antigua and Barbuda, including the geological formation of the islands, the Amerindian peoples and cultures who inhabited the island prior to European settlement, and recent Antiguan cultural practices. There is a library upstairs that has a large collection of pre-Colombian and historical artifacts, including ceramics, faunal remains, and metal objects, and an extensive collection of primary and secondary materials, including texts, maps, and photographs.

Mount Obama


Mount Obama is the highest point of the Shekerley Mountains and of the island of Antigua. It lies in the southwest of the island and rises to a height of 402 metres (1,319 ft) and is named after Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United State. Mount Obama (ex Bogey Peak) is the highest point on Antigua and can be climbed from its southern or northern side. Its is not a climb to speak of, but more a stroll up the hill. The summit is fenced off and crowned by a very noticeable AT&T telecom antenna

Betty's Hope


Betty's Hope was a sugarcane plantation in Antigua. It was established in 1650, shortly after the island had become an English colony, and flourished as a successful agricultural industrial enterprise during the centuries of slavery. It was the first large-scale sugar plantation to operate in Antigua
With a small interpretation centre, interpretation signage throughout the estate, this heritage landmark is well worth a visit. Betty's Hope was one of the earliest sugar plantations, dating to 1651. In 1990, restoration began and continues. The Bettys Hope Trust works with visiting schools of archaeology during the summer
Betty's Hope was the largest sugar estate on Antigua. Established by planter, Christopher Codrington shortly after the French invasion of the island, Betty's Hope was to become the flagship estate of Antigua. And while Codrington served as governor, the estate became the seat for the Leeward Islands.

Redonda Island

Green Island (Antigua and Barbuda)


One of the many small islands off the Antiguan coast, Green isle is a privately owned island, which has belonged to the Mill Reef club since 1947. If you visit, you will discover several beautiful, secluded beaches. Snorkeling is great right offshore, so be sure to bring your mask and fins.
Set on Green Island, this beach is on the West edge of the island, You might want even if you are not staying particularly close by. This beach isn't just another pleasant afternoon distraction, it is one of the more unique and quiet beaches in Antigua. While Green Island Beach may be a little harder to reach, it's the best place to take an undisturbed nap on the sand.
How to Access The Beach
You can only reach Green Island by boat, but many charter services from Antigua make frequent visits here.
Amenities and Ambiance
This island is a popular stop for many sea charter boats and tours. There are a few strips of velvet soft white sand with a backdrop of lush foliage. It's isolated and calm, a true paradise.
Please note that public restrooms are not available, which is something to consider if you're bringing the kids, or plan to spend all day outside. Happily, the off-shore waters are clear and good for snorkeling, so purchase or rent some gear if you've been hoping to get in some underwater exploration.
If you find that you enjoy beaches which offer those who visit a calm enclave, then think about trying out Green Island Beach; it is located in a less urban part of the region.

Great Bird Island, Antigua


Bird Island is a 20 acre islet lying almost three kilometres north-east of Antigua. Over 20,000 tourists visit Great Bird Island annually who generally regard it as a “desert island” dream.
Named by sailors who were amazed at the number of birds that they found living and nesting there, Great Bird Island is a miniature paradise. White sand beaches at either end of the sandbar are the main attraction for visitors.
Whilst it is better known for its superb beaches and closely surrounding coral reefs than any wildlife, it is also the only place you can see an Antiguan racer in the wild. The entire world population of this snake lives on the island. As well as being the last refuge of the Antiguan racer, it's the home for a variety of endangered creatures including exotic red-billed tropic birds (Phaeton astherus), brown pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis), rare lizard , West Indian whistling ducks and the magnificent frigate bird or man o’ war bird (Fregata magnificens).

Turners Beach


Located near Johnsons Point on the south west coast, for one of those absolute lazy days, head down to Turners beach. It welcomes you with inviting, cooling breezes to battle the Antiguan sunshine and offers calm, blue ocean to relax and recharge in. When you are done chilling out why not head to the superb Turners bar

Fort Barrington


A great off-grid spot, Fort Barrington was built in 1779 atop Goat Hill to protect the entrance to St John's Harbour. Those who tackle the brief but steep climb up here can clamber around the partly overgrown ruins and enjoy panoramic photo-ops of the harbor, Deep Bay and the wide open sea.
The main trailhead is near a small bridge past the Grand Royal Antiguan Hotel, with another starting at the north end of Deep Bay, making it easy to combine sightseeing with a dip in the azure seas. Wear sneakers.
The fort as it stands today was built in 1779 and is one of the best ruins to explore. Not only does its position atop Goat Hill provide a short but invigorating climb, there are also several rooms to explore, and the view from the top is unmatched for its sea view — blue stretches for miles.

Runaway Beach


Runaway Beach is a beach near Saint John's in Antigua and Barbuda. It is located on Dickinson's Bay, and contains the well-known Corbinson's Point. Located in Runaway Bay, 2.0 miles north-northwest of downtown St. John's, Runaway Beach is on the North West coast of Antigua. You should think about stopping by even if you aren't staying very close. Many of the beaches in Antigua are quiet and secluded, but the ambiance at Runaway Beach is one of both seclusion and activity; this means you can relax without sacrificing a fun and social atmosphere.
Runaway Beach is on Antigua's western coast and features rocky Corbinson Point on it's north end and a salt water pond on it's inland edge. It's the perfect beach for a sunset stroll.
There is also a snack bar here. On some days, it may be possible to purchase food from one of the mobile vendors who operate at or near this spot.
Keep in mind that restrooms won't be found on-site, so those of you traveling with small children may want to consider another spot. Luckily, beach umbrellas will be available for use to guests seeking some respite from the sun. The water here is clear and good for snorkeling, so bring along some equipment if you're hoping to see what lies beneath the surface. Runaway Beach is a peaceful area usually populated by honeymooners and famillies, so there's a good mix of people. For bigger crowds, visitors can walk to neighboring Dickinson's Bay.
Remember to take into account that the region in which Runaway Beach is located is is a much-visited area, meaning you may find many people vying for the use of the same amenities.


Mamora Bay


Perched on a hillside overlooking Antigua's beautiful southeastern coast, St. James's Club offers two idyllic white-sand beaches with very different personalities - the peaceful shores of Mamora Bay and the exciting surf of Coco Beach.
Crystal clear waters lap against white sands, a perfect environment to indulge in some water sport activities on holidays to Mamora Bay. Wind surfing, sailing, swimming and snorkelling are all popular activities here. There is also the Ultramarine Dive Centre, which offers scuba diving for both novice and experienced divers.

Jabberwock Beach


Jabberwock Beach is a breezy beach, great for windsurfing and kite surfing. This beach is popular with locals and tourists alike.
Situated on the northern side of the island of Antigua, near St. John's, You should consider stopping by even if you are not staying nearby. Perhaps Jabberwock is a favorite among travelers because it's a beach which is rarely too crowded, but it's not completely quiet and secluded either.
How to Access The Beach
Close to the airport and easily accessible, this Northeast beach is a popular spot on Shoal Bay. Take Jabberwock Road towards the Northeast corner of the island.
Amenities and Ambiance
On this beach the surf is rougher than some more Southwesterly beaches but it's still safe for swimming and strolling down the strip of soft sand. Close to accommodations, restaurants and shops, it's a convenient beach without the cramping of buildings on the beach itself.
Keep in mind that restrooms won't be found on-site, but you may be able to find facilities at a nearby business.
Attractions
Found on the North coast of Antigua; it will be near other attractions like Stanford Cricket Ground, which is a mile and a half to the south.
If you want to discover more interesting facts about the history of Antigua, some of the nearby attractions offer a historical perspective of the country. For instance, nearby is Old Sugar Mill Ruins, which is a short taxi trip or walk away from the coast.

Deep Bay


Deep Bay is a bay between Yuen Long, Hong Kong and the city of Shenzhen. It is otherwise known as Hau Hoi Wan in Hong Kong, and Shenzhen Bay. Deep Bay is an unincorporated area on the east coast of Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada across Baynes Sound from Denman Island which has a government marina in a naturally protected harbour. It is situated on Highway 19A north of Qualicum Beach between Fanny Bay and Bowser.

Frigate Bird Sanctuary


Barbuda is known for its beautiful pristine beaches, particularly its Pink Sand, which is a treasure to many…But there is more to this breathtaking treasure box than sparkling sands and emerald sea. Barbuda is home to the largest Frigate Bird Colony in the western hemisphere. This Colony is located in the capital of Barbuda, at the Codrington Lagoon, and is only accessible by a short boat trip with a knowledgeable tour guide.
These magnificent birds travel between the Caribbean and Galapagos islands during the varying mating seasons. The Barbuda Frigate Bird sanctuary has an estimated population of 100,000 birds, a natural treasure for bird watching lovers.

Fort James Beach


Fort James Beach. Antigua · Beaches. Fort James Beach located at Fort Bay on the northwest coast of Antigua. Fort James Beach is also a popular spot for cruise ship visitors, as it's only a 5-10 minutes drive from the St.John's cruise ship dock.
Was told Fort James beach was as nice as the most popular Fryes Beach (longer cab ride and higher fare) so we tried it. This actually sits on the other side of Fort Bay which is the fort that protected the harbor we just entered

Barbuda Pink Sand Beach

Pink Sand Beach is a distinguishable relaxation spot because it's the ideal location for getting away from vacation stresses, like overly crowded restaurants and attractions. Many of the other beaches in Antigua may be just as breezy and refreshing, but tend to be busier since they're found in the most popular parts of town.
With almost eight miles of silk sand that glows pink in the sun thanks to the crush coral that lives amongst the gravel, Pink Sand Beach is truly a sight to behold. Complimented by the stunningly turquoise waters, this beach is a can't miss.
Unfortunately, you won't find any public restrooms along this coastline, but you may be able to find facilities at a nearby business. The water in the area is fit for snorkeling, so grab your equipment if you want to see the underwater world.

King's Casino St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda


Kings casino. Antigua. Popped in to casino on a short trip into St. John's. The staff were the grumpiest people I met during our time in Antigua. Apart from that the slots are all quite dated, it might just be me but payout was very low.
Located in the heart of St. John's, Antigua, just off the cruise ship pier is King's Casino. Since 1988, King's Casino has been Antigua's #1 Entertainment Destination and with state of the art slot machines, all the best table games, a live action sports book, bar and more, it's easy to see why.

Princess Diana Beach


Once it was a favourite holiday destination of Diana, Princess of Wales, where she would take the young Princes William and Harry for carefree winter breaks. Today, passing cruise ships swing by so that passengers can take pictures of Princess Diana Beach.
A few steps away is Princess Diana Beach, so named because of her patronage of the nearby K-Club resort - which closed eight years ago and sits derelict. Some locals, Roddy included, are disappointed with its Italian owner, Mariuccia Mandelli of fashion label Krizia, for damaging tourism by refusing.

VC Bird Monument


A government senator has levelled harsh criticism at authorities for allowing the monument of the late “Father of the Nation” Sir Vere Cornwall Bird Sr to be poorly maintained. Senator Osbert Frederick said members of the public should not be allowed to desecrate the statue which was placed in St John's.


Willoughby Bay (Antigua)


Despite its breathtaking views of the Caribbean, Willoughby Bay often remains uninhabited. This makes it a great stop for someone looking for a secluded spot of beachfront property to claim as their own for a few hours during their Barbados trip.
Located in Willoughby Bay, fairly close to Mamora Bay, this beach is on the South East coast of Antigua. You should think about stopping by even if you aren't staying in the vicinity. Willoughby Bay is a distinguishable relaxation spot because it's one of the best spots for getting away from vacation stresses, like overly crowded restaurants and attractions. Most other beaches in Antigua may have the same warm sand and calming breezes as Willoughby Bay, but tend to be busier because they border some of the area's most popular resorts.

Dow's Hill Interpretation Centre


For a primer on Antigua history from the Amerindian era to the present, watch the 15-minute multimedia presentation at this interpretative center just past the entrance to Shirley Heights. ... Afterwards take in lovely views of English Harbour from the viewing platform.

Morris Bay

Simply pull off the road into the grove of coconut palms at the back of the beach. You’ll always find some friendly animals grazing here. The water on this side is often just a little cooler and crystal clear for a refreshing dip and a beach walk to dry off.

Prince Klaas Monument


Prince Klaas, leader of the supposed slave rebellion on Antigua, on the wheel. Breaking on the wheel was the most horrific punishment ever visited on a convicted criminal. It was a form of crucifixion, but with several cruel refinements; in its evolved form, a prisoner was strapped, spreadeagled.
